Does God talk to his believers? Every person has inner voices so how does one know which one to listen to as coming from God? It is easier if you meditate because meditation requires you to study and think about different Biblical passages and how they can be applied in your life. As you meditate regularly, you become knowledgeable about what is right and wrong and be able to distinguish falsehoods from truths.
Once you start meditating, you will know how to distinguish inner voices and recognize when God is speaking to you. Here’s how:
- When you are inspired to do good because according to 1 Peter 2:15 by doing good, you silence foolish people
- When you feel the need to help others through donation, kind words or action because Isaiah 58:10-12 says to “feed the hungry and help those in trouble.”
- When you come to a sudden realization that makes it easy to come to a decision or learn something new that will be helpful for yourself and others because Isaiah 1:17 advises us to “Learn to do right, seek justice, defend the oppressed, take up the cause of the fatherless; pleas the case of the widow.”
- When you feel peace of mind because God’s Word promises us peace
These and many more Biblical passages can be meditated upon to help you recognize the voice of God. In fact, 1 Timothy 4:8 says that spiritual exercise (meditation and prayer) is more important than physical exercise because “it promises a reward in both this life and the next.”
It’s important to understand that God will talk to your through your thoughts. Sometimes, the thought comes in as a gentle reminder; other times, it can be a stunning revelation. You will know it is from God because Christian meditation prepares your heart and mind to hear His voice. The voice will also never tell you to do something that is harmful, dangerous, or evil. You can even ask God for a confirmation if you’re feeling unsure or in your next meditation session, you can contemplate on the thought and study if it is based on scripture. God will never tell you to do something that is inconsistent with his Word.
Can You Prompt God to Talk to You Now?
While you cannot make demands on God, you can pray fervently and ask that He listens and attends to your needs. You should also take comfort that God is always listening. You cannot be selective with God and it helps when you try to do His will, not yours.
It also helps if you find time to meditate quietly. It’s hard to be hit with a realization or truth from God when you are in a noisy environment.
What Happens if God Never Talks to Me?
Are there people who meditate but never hear from God? Yes, there will be times when God is silent. Just like the story of Job in the Old Testament, Job kept asking – pleading – for answers. Biblical scholars believe Job suffered for months. Many individuals today suffer for years but find answers only when they start meditating the Christian way. God will always find a way to communicate with you. The question is, are you listening?
